Linens ’n Things going out of business
The Business Journal of Milwaukee
Retail chain Linens 'n Things is headed for liquidation after nobody stepped forward to operate the bankrupt company. As a result, its last three Milwaukee-area stores will be closed.
The home furnishings company told a bankruptcy court in Delaware that the only bid to buy Linens ’n Things has come from a group of liquidators that plan on shutting the company down. So the company will begin to shut down its remaining locations – including stores in Greendale, Brookfield and Germantown.
Linens ‘n Things had 589 stores when it filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May. The company shut 120 locations -- including stores at The Shops of Grand Avenue and its Regency Mall location in Racine -- in an effort to keep business going. It ultimately collapsed amid downturns in the housing market and the larger economy in general.
The stores are expected to be shut down by the end of the year. Discount sales could begin as soon as this week.
