Economic downturn hits Clear Channel Outdoor
The Business Journal of Milwaukee - from the San Antonio Business Journal
Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings Inc.’s net earnings plummeted during the third quarter as economic pressures began to take a toll.
The outdoor advertising company, which has a major presence in Milwaukee, reported net income of $9.1 million, or 3 cents per share, on revenue of $813.4 million for the third quarter of 2008. This compares with net income of $54.7 million, or 15 cents per share, on revenue of $817.5 million for the third quarter of 2007.
With the exception of Los Angeles and Milwaukee, two of the markets where the company has installed digital networks, results for most U.S. markets reflected slowing demand during the quarter, Clear Channel said.
“Economic pressures in the U.S. and abroad are having their effect on our advertisers and our business performance,” says Mark Mays, CEO of Clear Channel Outdoor. “Overall revenues in the third quarter were virtually flat with the same period last year. Our international operations grew modestly while revenues in the Americas were off slightly.”
San Antonio-based Clear Channel Communications Inc., which was purchased by a private equity group on July 30, owns a 90 percent stake in Clear Channel Outdoor (NYSE: CCO). Clear Channel Outdoor is the world’s largest outdoor advertising company. Clear Channel Communications is a global media and entertainment company.
