Grammy-award winning gospel artist BeBe Winans has filed a $6 million lawsuit against his former business manager in Davidson County Circuit Court.
Winans, whose real name is Benjamin Winans, says he suffered substantial financial damage due to fraud by his former manager, Eric Peterson of Nashville.
The complaint accuses Peterson of opening a line of credit at Wachovia Bank in Winans' name and diverting the funds to himself.
Peterson is also accused of inducing Winans to sign a power of attorney and using it to execute a promissory note obligating Winans to pay him $150,000.
Reached by telephone Tuesday, Peterson declined comment.
Winans, who lives in Brentwood, is a nationally known gospel artist and part of the famous Winans family.
He has won four Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, six Stellar Awards, two NAACP Awards and a Soul Train Award, according to his web site.
Winans is also a judge on the new BET show Sunday Best, which is considered a gospel version of American Idol.
