Circuit City closing Antioch, Spring Hill stores
Nashville Business Journal
Circuit City will close two Middle Tennessee stores as part of the struggling retailer’s efforts to stay afloat.
The electronics retailer (NYSE: CC) announced today that it is closing 155 stores nationally. It represents about 20 percent of the company’s roughly 700 locations.
The stores at 5221 Hickory Hollow Parkway in Antioch and 1041 Crossing Blvd. in Spring Hill are among those to be shuttered. Circuit City has five stores in the Nashville area.
The stores that will be closed are in 55 markets, with the company abandoning 12 cities.
Circuit City says it will also reduce future store openings and renegotiate some of its leases. The turbulent economy and Circuit City’s own flagging business have the company scrambling to save cash.
The company says it will continue business without interruption while it works with lenders and advisers to determine “the most appropriate restructuring alternatives.”
