Report: Black Friday online spending up
Nashville Business Journal
With more shoppers watching their budgets this year, deep discounts reportedly brought an 11 percent jump in Internet shopping on Black Friday.
PriceGrabber.com, a part of Experian, says online customers were gobbling up electronics.
PriceGrabber cites the most popular items purchased as the Nintendo Wii video game console followed by UGG Australia classic short boots, Sony's Blue-Ray ray disc player and a 52-inch LCD television by Samsung.
In a statement Ron LaPierre, president of PriceGrabber.com, says Thanksgiving and Black Friday traffic show that value drives consumer spending.
"Consumers are responding to aggressive promotions and price drops on popular electronics," he says.
Reston-based comScore (NASDAQ:SCOR) put Black Friday online spending at $534 million, which it says is up 1 percent from last year.
The company also reports online sales were up 2 percent compared to last year for Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday combined.
In a release, comScore says the 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Black Friday rush accounted for just 11 percent of the day's total online retail sales, while 84 percent of the day’s sales took place after 8 a.m.
