Sound Advice to shutter stores
Orlando Business Journal
Electronics store chain Tweeter Home Entertainment Group will shutter its 94 U.S. stores, including three Sound Advice stores in Orlando, after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year.
Sound Advice's Web site lists Central Florida stories in Orlando, on Sand Lake Road and East Colonial Drive, and Altamonte Springs.
Hudson Capital Partners LLC has been retained by parent company Tweeter, which is based in Canton, Mass., to liquidate the business. Store closings will begin this week and take six to seven weeks to complete, said Jim Schaye, CEO of Newton, Mass.-based Hudson.
Sound Advice's advertising has long touted its expertise in helping consumers put together home entertainment systems, but the retailer has seen increased competition from Best Buy, Circuit City and HHGregg.
Tweeter’s closure comes amid a slowing economy, credit crunch and sluggish consumer spending nationally.
Earlier this week, Circuit City Stores (NYSE: CC) said it will close 155 stores across 12 U.S. markets, including one in Orlando.
Tweeter Home Entertainment Group filed for bankruptcy in June, with $165 million in debt. New York investment firm Schultze Asset Management LLC purchased Tweeter out of bankruptcy for $38 million.
