NCL Hawaii office cut by 5, Alan Yamamoto gone
Pacific Business News (Honolulu) - by Chad Blair
Norwegian Cruise Line said Monday it has reduced its Hawaii office by five positions.
The layoffs include Alan Yamamoto, vice president of Hawaii operations, who took the position in June 2007. About a half-dozen employees remain in the Hawaii office.
NCL said the majority of NCL America’s operations will now be handled from the company’s headquarters in Miami.
The Hawaii consolidation follows the withdrawal of two of three NCL America ships from the Hawaii market earlier this year.
NCL said in a statement that the Hawaii operations are now profitable and is “extremely pleased with the performance of Pride of America and remains committed to operating seven-day interisland cruises in Hawaii.”
