HMSA to launch online care service

Pacific Business News (Honolulu)

The Hawaii Medical Service Association is launching a new online care service that will connect patients and physicians via the Internet or phone.

HMSA’s Online Care will go live Jan. 15. The service is available to everyone in Hawaii.

HMSA health plan members will be able to go online from home and speak with a doctor for $10. Nonmembers can use the service for $45 per visit.

HMSA said the service is the first of its kind in the nation.

“We’re very proud to offer this revolutionary new service to the residents of our community, especially those who live in rural areas of the state,” said HMSA Vice President Michael Stollar, in a statement. “One of the many benefits of HMSA’s Online Care will be improved access to care throughout Hawaii.”

Each session lasts up to 10 minutes. An additional five minutes will cost HMSA members $5 and nonmembers $15.

HMSA said physicians will be able to provide online services day or night, and can do so from their homes or offices.
