First Solar finishes first California project, awarded a second one

Phoenix Business Journal

After finishing work on the first in a series of projects for Southern California Edison, First Solar Inc. was rewarded with a second job in the project.

SCE plans to install a total of 250 megawatts on rooftops throughout California during the next five years.

Tempe-based First Solar (Nasdaq:FSLR) installed 2 megawatts of solar generating capacity on a Fontana, Calif., roof and was the successful bidder for the second project, a 1-megawatt installation in Chino, Calif.

Neither company disclosed the terms of those deals or the construction costs. SCE will own the panels and produce its own electricity.

In Arizona, utilities and other entities often operate on power purchase agreements, under which a third party owns the system.
