Duquesne Light names first female COO

Duquesne Light has named Maureen L. Hogel chief operating officer, making her the first woman to hold the position in the company's history.
"Maureen is an invaluable, integral part of the success of Duquesne Light Company," CEO Morgan K. O'Brien said in a statement. "She has been a high performing leader in developing a culture that puts our customers first. She is also very active in the community, believing that community service is a critical component of strong corporate leadership."
Hogel joined the company in 1996. She became vice president, legal, and progressed through a series of other assignments including, most recently, senior vice president and chief legal and administrative officer. "I am very excited to take on a new and challenging role in this great company," Hogel said in a statement. "Duquesne Light has some of the best employees in the utility industry, and I'm pleased to be part of the team that will lead us into future successes." Prior to joining Duquesne Light, Hogel was a management labor attorney in private practice in Philadelphia and New Orleans. Hogel has a bachelor's degree from Wheeling College and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She is a member of the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Mercy Foundation, the YMCA of Pittsburgh and Three Rivers Youth.
