Sacramento Business Journal

Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. won a contract with Dallas Area Rapid Transit to supply 24 substations for DART's expansion. The $30 million base contract could be expanded for an additional 14 substations.

Siemens will use its newest technology for the substations, called Sitras Thyristor Controlled Rectifier units. The units stabilize voltage to increase energy efficiency.

The first substation is slated for delivery in October 2008, and all 24 should be installed by 2010.

Sacramento-based Siemens Transportation Systems is a subsidiary of Siemens AG (NYSE: SI).
