Kobra gets OK to pay employees
Sacramento Business Journal - by Michael Shaw Staff writer
A judge has granted Kobra Properties, which filed for bankruptcy protection last week, permission to pay its employees wages and benefits and permission to use cash on hand to pay its operating expenses until a hearing scheduled for Tuesday. The company directly employs 36 workers and its operations support hundreds of others working in its restaurants and commercial properties.
The rulings were among a group of motions the company sought upon filing a Chapter 11 petition. Kobra, a commercial property developer, owns more than 80 properties and has estimated the worth of that real estate at $530 million.
“We’ll be moving quickly to present our reorganization plan and are optimistic it will be confirmed, allowing us to fairly meet our financial obligations,” Kobra founder and president Abe Alizadeh said in a prepared statement.
