Former San Antonio radio vet Andrew Ashwood dies
San Antonio Business Journal - by W. Scott Bailey
Andrew Ashwood, the former operations manager for WOAI-AM and Ticket 760-AM radio stations, died Thursday at the age of 51.
Ashwood, who had moved to the Los Angeles area to become vice president and general manager of Fox Sports Radio, passed away in a Sherman Oaks, Calif., hospital after suffering a massive heart attack on Nov. 10.
FOX Sports Radio is a unit of Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of San Antonio-based Clear Channel Communications Inc. He left San Antonio in the fall of 2003 for the opportunity in California.
Ashwood told the Business Journal in October 2003 as he was preparing to make the move to the West Coast, “It’s not often that you get to go from one dream job to another dream job. I really fell in love with San Antonio.”
Ashwood may have loved San Antonio. But he also loved the Green Bay Packers.
Premiere President Charlie Rahilly informed his troops of Ashwood’s passing.
In an internal memo provided to the Business Journal, Rahilly said, “We lost a beloved member of our Premiere family. Andrew Ashwood was an immensely positive force who inspired all who knew him. He was truly a valued mentor, boss, employee, friend and all around good man who accomplished great things.
“He was the heart and soul of FOX Sports Radio,” the memo continues. “Always our winner, Andrew will be missed greatly, but his legacy lives on.”
Ashwood is survived by his wife Sandra and two sisters Ann and Lorry.
