PBwiki taps new CEO

San Francisco Business Times

PBwiki Inc. hired Jim Groff as CEO, taking over from David Weekly, who started the company.

Weekly is now chairman of the San Mateo business, which hosts so-called "wikis," or sets of collaborative web pages that can be modified by all the people who can access them.

Programmer Ward Cunningham coined this use of the term in 1994 -- he took it from the name of the Wiki Wiki buses in Hawaii, where "wiki" means "fast."

New CEO Groff worked at Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL), which bought TimesTen Inc., a company Groff led as president and CEO. Groff also worked at Apple Computer (NASDAQ: AAPL) after that company bought Network Innovations Corp., which he started.

PBwiki is based in San Mateo.
