Avanex names CEO

Avanex Corp. made Giovanni Barbarossa president and chief executive officer.

Barbarossa, interim CEO at the Fremont optical networking company since July, was also added to Avanex’s board of directors.

Barbarossa has worked for Avanex (NASDAQ: AVNX) for eight years and was formerly chief technical officer and senior vice president with the company.

He also has had management jobs in the optical networking division of Santa Clara-based Agilent Technologies (NYSE: A) and the network product group of Lucent Technologies.
