Hotel funding package unveiled

Gov. Mel Carnahan and St. Louis leaders unveiled the $244 million funding package for the new downtown convention hotel. The final piece of the package was the Missouri Development Finance Board's preliminary approval for a $16.5 million loan guarantee. Construction of the Marriott hotel, with more than 1,000 rooms, is scheduled to start in March. The hotel is expected to open by mid-2002. The developer is Historic Preservation Inc. of New Orleans.
