Doctor gets prison sentence for Medicare, Medicaid fraud

Dr. Nestor A. Garcia was sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison and ordered to pay $1.66 million dollars for health care fraud. Garcia, who operated ACLF Medical Services Inc. and CARES Inc. in Pinellas, Pasco, Polk and Hillsborough counties, was convicted in December of one county of fraud conspiracy and 15 counties of submitting false claims for Medicare and Medicaid payment. Garcia submitted more than $4.5 million in fraudulent claims to the two programs from August 1994 through December 1995.
