USF names Patel Center leader

Tampa Bay Business Journal

Betty Castor, former president of the University of South Florida, was named the executive director of the university's Kiran Patel Center for Global Solutions.

Castor will oversee all segments of the solutions-oriented research center, which has a goal of providing innovative policy advice to public and private decision makers.

She was USF president from 1994 to 1999. Castor also is a former Florida Commissioner of Education and former Hillsborough County commissioner.

For the past several years, Castor has been involved in launching a new charitable organization to assist schools and universities in East Africa.
