Strib shuts down MARQ Magazine
Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal - by Katharine Grayson Staff Writer
The Minneapolis Star Tribune has shut down MARQ magazine, a niche publication that targeted high net-worth individuals.
The newspaper has cut five positions as a result of the closure. The Star Tribune’s vice president of specialty publications also left the company.
The bi-monthly magazine was distributed free to “exclusive” readers in the Twin Cities metro area. The publication wasn’t “meeting expectations,” a Star Tribune spokesman said. “It was not growing at the pace it should be, and as we look at the forecast for the economy in 2009, we didn’t think it had much chance of growing over the next year.”
MARQ has shut down immediately, and will not produce another issue.
